ANZSO-funded Abstract Awards

Best Asia Pacific Region New Investigator Award

This award will be presented to the best abstract submitted by a New Investigator (defined as aged under 40) outside of Australia and New Zealand from the Asia Pacific region. The winner will be selected from the New Investigator Award applicants with an abstract submission in the relevant field. The award consists of complimentary registration for the 2025 APSC meeting.

Applicants must be 40 years old or below. Awardees will be requested to provide document proof before receiving the award. In the abstract submission online form of APSC 2023, they have a box for applicant to choose.

ANZSO New Investigator Awards

  • Peter Bladin new investigator award ($1000 + travel grant $3,000 for attendance at either WSC, APSC or ESOC the year after )

  • ANZSO Stroke recovery (Allied health) scientific award ($1000 and 12 months membership)

  • ANZSO Acute stroke (medical) scientific award ($1000)

These awards will be presented to the best abstracts submitted by New Investigators in the relevant fields (the Peter Bladin award being additionally judged on the oral presentation).

In the abstract submission online form of APSC 2024, they have a box for applicant to choose.

To be eligible the investigator must:

By undergoing or having completed an accredited post-graduate/undergraduate training program, or commenced full-time academic research, whichever is most recent, no more than 5 years before the closing date for abstracts

Be the first author on the paper

Have contributed substantially to the design and conduct of the research study

Nominate the ANZSO Peter Bladin New Investigator Award during the abstract submission process

It is important to note that only one abstract per submitter can be nominated for this award. Previous winners of the award are ineligible. Awardees will be requested to provide document proof before receiving the award.

ANZSO Student/Trainee Bursary Awards

The Australian & New Zealand Stroke Organisation is pleased to offer multiple bursaries to help neurology and stroke registrars and fellows, or higher degree candidates (PhD, Masters) from any stroke discipline attend APSC 2024.

To be considered for this bursary you must meet the below criteria:

  • Submit an abstract for an oral or poster presentation

  • Be either be a trainee in stroke medicine (e.g. a Stroke Fellow, or Neurology trainee) or a higher degree candidate (e.g. PhD, Masters) in a stroke related discipline

  • Register to attend APSC 2024

The bursaries will be awarded depending on the independent scientific assessment of the submitted abstract. The ANZSO Executive will make all final decisions on these awards.

To apply for this bursary, please ensure you do the following:

  • Submit an abstract through the online submission portal

  • Provide your CV (maximum 2 pages), evidence of student enrolment (if relevant), details of your current position, and abstract title to the Conference Secretariat via email by 24 May 2024.

APSO Special Abstract Awards

To recognize good research from less resourced countries, Asia Pacific Stroke Organisation (APSO) is pleased to offer 10 APSO Special Abstract Awards to healthcare professionals/researchers attending the Asia Pacific Stroke Conference (APSC) to be held in Adelaide, Australia from 25 – 28 September 2024, and presenting a high-quality abstract as determined by the International Scientific Committee and the Executive Committee APSO.

Eligibility

Awardees must meet the following criteria:

1. Healthcare professional (e.g. doctor, nurse, therapist, medical social worker, pharmacist, dietitian, neuropsychologist, etc) or researcher

2. Working in low income countries (LIC) or lower-middle income countries (LMIC) as defined by the World Bank: https://data.worldbank.org/?locations=XM-XN

3. Have an abstract as first author accepted by the International Scientific Committee for presentation at the conference

4. Presented the research covered in the abstract at APSC 2024

Announcement

The list of awardees will be announced in the closing ceremony of APSC 2024

Prize

Each awardee (i.e. the first author of the abstract) will be awarded the registration fee for APSC 2025

The awardee must be present and physically receive the award during the closing ceremony

Only 1 award will be presented to an awardee
